2019

January 2019

This is the beginning of a new year of retirement, travel and family.

January started quietly and it was nice to have Peter home to share his time with us.

We flew to Bermuda to visit with Noah and Isaac for a long weekend. and booked apartment so we could scoop the boys away from their parents and explore, play and eat. We had a nice spot this year which was very close to a play ground and field for running off steam.

We walked to a local store every day for supplies and treats. We brought their Christmas gifts with us and they opened a gift every day. Lots of fun.

We did get a chance to take the bus to town and eat lunch at Flanagan’s. The boys are getting easier to take out for a meal. Colin came by for a visit one evening and we chatted after the boys went to bed.

We also celebrated Noah’s birthday a little early. Lynne and Colin came by with a frozen cake and we had a little party. It was a great night. I can’t believe he will be turning six at the end of January.

We flew back through Boston and Pete picked us up at the airport. It is certainly colder here than Bermuda.

We prepared for our three month travel for the next week or so guessing what we will need. It is going to be different because we will be in three countries and traveling more with out luggage. We decided on backpacks instead of a second smaller suitcase for ease with traveling on trains etc.

We stayed with Sue the night before our flight again this year, this might turn out to be an annual thing. While there I received notice that our first flight to Montreal was canceled due to snow in Montreal and that we could call Air Canada to rebook. After being on hold for hours we finally got through and we’re re-routed on United through Newark. We would have to go to the airport for four in the morning. That clearly did not happen, United did not have any record of us and they said to go to Air Canada information, we did and got a flight to Toronto and then to Vancouver and then to Japan and Bangkok. As it turned out we were delayed for two hours in Toronto and therefore missed our connecting flight in Vancouver. The airline agents looked after us and rebooked us through to Bangkok the next day.

The silver lining was that we spent the night with Janet and Billy and got to have supper with Christine, Jennifer and Matt. It was a fun night and a great way to start our vacation.
